Led by Team Champion Yousef Al-Yacoub (QP), the English Competence Team consisted of eight members: Dolphin Energy, Encana, Oryx, Qatar Electricity & Water Company, Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, RasGas, and Wintershall. The group’s most significant accomplishment was the ratification of the English Competence Framework as the basis of language training for all companies in Qatar’s Energy & Industry sector. After a series of meetings and investigations, the Team identified three projects:

a) Development of standardized, competency-based, in-house English language training and assessment materials for employees and trainees in the Energy & Industry sector

QP’s English Curriculum Development Team was assigned this project in 2004, to develop dynamic, motivating, and flexible English language learning materials using a competency-based framework as its focus. b) Matching of English language competencies to established job groups

This project was handled by a Job Families Team whose mandate was to build on QP’s own experience of analyzing English competence levels in relation to Job Families (or groups).

c) Sharing of experience and expertise between companies

This project is ongoing. We hope that the relationships we have forged with different companies and organizations such as Qatargas, RasGas, and the College of the North Atlantic - among others, will continue to develop and that our shared experiences will be productive and rewarding.
